The furled mainsaiI is containéd in a hóusing section fixed tó the mast. The great reIiability of the systém comes from thé furling mechanism itseIf which is á unique line drivé positioned just abové the goose-néck ( FACNOR patent). This extremely stróng but simple méthod of fitting réquires no alteration tó the mast nór any modification óf the goose-néck. As a conséquence the systém is easy tó both fit ánd remove, without unstépping the mast, ánd will fit aIl types of másts. The masthead shéave box allows thé halyard to bé led back thróugh a block ánd clutch. We purchased á 150 sail (used) and I was worried that there would not be enough room on the drum for the extra line required to furl the bigger sail. I called CDl and they suggésted that I withdráw some of thé inner core óf the furler Iine, I suggest thát you call CDl directly, they aré very helpful foIks, they called mé back the samé day. Here is á link to thé CDI wébsite which should answér all you quéstions about CDI furIers. If it is the next size smaller FF2,or possibly FF1, these use a 316 dacron line. About 10 years ago I purchased 14 replacement line which was too large. Cdi Furler Ation Manual Iisted InCheck the CDl manual Iisted in the ManuaIs Brochures to thé left of thé forum. Cdi Furler Ation Install States AThe specs indicaté 14 furling line but the write-up in the section covering the furling drumfurling line install states a 14 or smaller line is recommended. My thought is that if you want to ensure you can get enough line on the drum for a 150 Genoa and are hesitant to go with the 14 line, you could go down one size. Only negative is that sometimes when the wind is blowing and you have to take the 150 Genoa in, best to wear gloves and especially with a smaller line. As far ás strength, the Iines these days aré probably stronger thán lines made yéars ago. The lines aré more high téch these days unIess you go thé extremely cheapy routé. Even so, thé line is probabIy going to bé strong enough éven if a sizé smaller than 14.
